These Christmas maternity photos are from one of my favorite sessions. This repeat client has turned into a close friend and I loved getting to celebrate her and help her feel beautiful and confident in her changing body! Christmas tree farms are often only available in the first half of November as they open their doors to clients purchasing trees in the latter half. So if Christmas tree farm photos are on your must-have list, reach out in early October or sooner!
Christmas Maternity Photo Outfits
I love the champagne pink, gold, and light green color palette – it’s festive but elevated, and still feels light and airy in the images. It is often hit or miss with the weather in Illinois in November. I recommend clients be prepared with layers for their outfits – tights or leggings, cardigans or sweaters, and hats or scarves. This allows you to add as many layers as you need to feel comfortable during your outdoor photoshoot while also maintaining a cohesive look in your photos. Not to worry, I provide a comprehensive session and style guide to all clients which offers assistance with wardrobe palettes and color coordination! In this case, my client accessorized with a white shawl to provide a warmth while also meshing beautifully with her dress and the beauty of the location.
While a lighter palette was the right choice for this session, you can absolutely feel free (and should!) wear clothes and colors you feel comfortable in for your Christmas maternity photos. I am happy to discuss palettes and wardrobe options with you upon booking!

Christmas Tree Farm Maternity Photos
This is the idea we ultimately went with for her Christmas maternity photos! I loved the symbolism of having her photoshoot on the part of the farm with baby trees. 🙂 I love the organic, natural backdrop of a Christmas tree farm – it’s a beautiful location for a photoshoot!
While I loved the simplicity of the bare trees, it would be really cute to have some shots decorating the trees at a family photoshoot.
Christmas Maternity Photos with Holiday Lights
We actually did this for her family’s Christmas card photo! You can check out that photoshoot here, as well as my recommendations for family-friendly places to see holiday lights in Chicago. The festive anticipation of Christmas dovetails nicely with the joy and anticipation of your own little one!
No snow? Not to worry, I bring my own. 😉 It’s a lot of fun to play with the artificial, biodegradable snow – clients love it!

Some other dreamy ideas I have for a Christmas maternity shoot include photos at the big Christmas tree at the Wrigley Building in downtown Chicago, at-home with your partner snuggled under the tree, or even in downtown Chicago at Millennium Park and outside the Art Institute for a very chic and sophisticated look! I’m also always open to ideas – I love helping bring your photoshoot vision to life! Helping clients create a session that is perfectly suited to their tastes is one of my favorite things.
