Considerations for your San Diego Senior Pictures
One thing I’ll be thinking about during your planning session is what time of year it is, and how far inland your locations are. Depending on the month there can be significantly more marine layer – which might affect what time of day we go to your photoshoot locations, particularly if it’s closer to the water!
May, June, and July are all months with significantly more marine layer, so early spring and late summer into fall are some of the best times to go to the more popular locations by the coast.
Another consideration is time of day. There are so many beautiful locations in San Diego, but they can be crowded! I’ll be thinking about what locations and times of day will be quietest, both from an efficiency standpoint, and for your own comfort!

There are so many beautiful places in San Diego county for your senior photos! Here are a few of my favorite locations in the area. 🙂
Balboa Park
A classic location for a reason! With the beautiful architecture, fountains, and gardens, Balboa Park is a fantastic choice for variety for your San Diego senior pictures! From the Botanical building with its historical wrought-iron greenhouse, and beautiful lily pond, to the Alcázar Gardens that bloom year-round, Balboa Park is always one of my favorite locations to recommend! Scripps Pier
Just north of La Jolla Shores beach, the Scripps Pier provides interest and natural framing! As a San Diego senior photographer, I appreciate how the combination of sand and surf lends itself to beautifully light and airy images!
Torrey Pines
Before I was a San Diego senior photographer, I was a botanist, and the rare pines at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve continue to fill me with glee. Not a plant nerd like me? Not to worry, Torrey Pines offers stunning sweeping views of the Pacific along with a beautiful, natural hillside. I promise I won’t make you hike too far from the parking lot! 🙂
Coronado Island
If you’re looking for an expansive beach backdrop (and maybe also a Hotel Del cameo), Coronado is the place to be! This is a classic and lovely location for splashing in the waves, walking along the shoreline, and posing next to the surf!
Carlsbad Flower Fields
A little farther afield in Carlsbad, the vibrant colors of the flower fields are a popular and stunning choice for your San Diego senior pictures! These famous fields are full of a rainbow of ranunculus flowers, which typically bloom from early March through early May.
Your School Campus
There’s nothing quite like portraits at your high school or university to reflect on the last four years, and San Diego is blessed with highly photogenic campuses. Come check out my client’s UCSD graduation photos here!
