I’m excited to share with you today some beautiful family photos in Balboa Park in the heart of San Diego, CA. I travel to the west coast a couple of times a year and I am always happy to do photoshoots while on travel!
I met up with this family for photos in Balboa Park, the stunning “Central Park,” if you will, in the middle of San Diego. There’s stunning architecture and so many beautiful gardens, oh, and LOTS of tourists! This shoot was a delightful challenge for me as I had not photographed at this location before, and it was also much closer to sunset than I usually shoot. I arrived early to location scout and was blown away by how beautiful it was!
I love the beautiful arches and architecture here! When I saw this arch I knew I wanted to take some shots here because the framing was so cool.

Then we moved over to Alcazar Gardens for some pretty shots with the iconic California Tower in the background. Both Mom and Dad are graduates of local San Diego universities and have ties to the area, so it was especially nice to highlight that connection with an iconic San Diego location for their photoshoot.
Love that glow and how the Spanish style of tile coordinates with their clothes!

And then some shots of Mom with her girls, because Moms never have enough good shots of them in the frame!
Aren’t her eyes stunning? I was hoping to recreate a shot I had taken of this girl years before that her parents loved, and I was delighted to discover how pronounced her heterochromia had become!

I love that late afternoon glow! It really brought out the most incredible colors in her red hair!
If the kids permit it I always take a couple of shots of just Mom and Dad. Sometimes the last time they had a professional photo taken was their wedding, and it’s lovely to update the shots for them!
Catching that Golden Hour glow
Towards the end of our photoshoot this little girl was so happy to be wrapped up nice and warm in her stroller! She gave us the biggest, sweetest smiles with her two little teeth on display!
And finally I couldn’t resist a few final shots on the way back to the parking lot when the light was just so pretty!
