The Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center is located at 3609 Spring Rd, Oak Brook, IL. It’s a quick drive from downtown Chicago, and in my opinion is one of the loveliest nature preserves in the Chicago area.

It’s my true pleasure to have so many repeat clients over the years! Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve
The Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve is an absolutely beautiful place for a walk! It’s located along the Salt Creek and has lots of lovely winding paths under the oak trees and over the river. It’s a fabulous place for a family outing in nature, and a highly picturesque location for fall family photos in the western suburbs.
Graue Mill
Just a little to the south of Fullersburg Woods, an easy walk from the Nature Center, is the old Graue Mill. It’s a old-fashioned grist mill originally built in 1852, and has a fun water wheel. If you have the time, I encourage you to check it out! Unfortunately it is not a great choice for a family photo session due to the sun angle in the fall. If you have your heart set on photos at Graue Mill, I recommend an evening session in June.
Fullersburg Woods Parking
Luckily, there is free parking right next to the Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center. While most of the time there are plenty of spots, on prime fall foliage dates you’ll want to arrive early! During the fall I’ve seen the parking lot go from empty to filled over the course of about 10 minutes in the morning! It’s a very popular spot for leaf-peeping in Chicago’s western suburbs.
When Should I go to Fullersburg Woods?
I think Fullersburg Woods is at its prime in the fall – the mosquitoes are gone and the leaves are beautiful! While it’s a fun visit at any time of year, mosquitoes love me too much for me to want to consider a visit in the summer!
