Sharing today some twins senior photos! Every so often I get inquiries about splitting up a photoshoot for siblings photos or best friends photoshoots. I’m definitely open to the idea!

How do you split up the time for twins senior photos?
There are definitely different ways to split up the time, but for this twin senior photos session, my clients wanted a three-hour photoshoot and three locations and to split up the time by doing 20 minutes of each client and 20 minutes of the twins together at each location. It was a little challenging to pull off and ensure equal time in front of the camera, to be honest, particularly because we were moving from backdrop to backdrop within the greater area of the locations.

Siblings Photos Posing Ideas
One of the biggest challenges with posing siblings (particularly older sibling) is ensuring they look friendly, without veering into “are they dating?” territory.
Back to Back
You need to be careful with this pose with teens because it can look really young for them if you’re not cautious. I prefer two small tweaks to update the pose for older siblings: 1) have them hold onto their clothing instead of crossing their arms; 2) Have one of them stand perpendicular to the camera, while the other is at a 45 degree angle. It’s a small adjustment that helps modernize the pose while emphasizing the closeness of the siblings.

Side by Side
Siblings photos with side by side posing is a long-time favorite for a reason. However, you don’t need to make it boring. Shake things up by varying the height of your subjects by standing or sitting, or by interacting with the environment (in our case, the the lovely pavilion in Lincoln Park).

Doing Something Fun
Now this is my favorite sort pose because it lets the personality of your clients (and the relationship of the twins with each other) really shine through. I love that we get to see the twins’ playful side come through in these photos! This is a great opportunity to ask your clients if they have a special trick or athletic ability to showcase. My clients had backgrounds in dancing, volleyball, and gymnastics, and it was fun to shake things up from traditional posing and just play!
