Sharing today some fun and high-energy portraits: check out these Chromatic Gate photos from Santa Barbara!

Chromatic Gate Photos
These photos were taken in the very early afternoon at the Snapshot Photography Conference in Santa Barbara. This was a special section on how to photograph with very bright natural light, and I love how it pulled out some major vibrancy in the colors!

This awesome art installation is called Chromatic Gate! Chromatic Gate was made in 1991 by Austrian-born artist Herbert Bayer of nearby Montecito, CA. The city of Santa Barbara has a strong focus on public art installations which makes this a fantastic city for art lovers (and photoshoots).

The gradient from cool to warm colors as well as the offset steel beams of this sculpture really make it a fun location from nearly every angle! Chromatic gate photos are a fun way to immortalize your time in Santa Barbara. Depending on the angle, you can achieve either a whimsical or a more editorial look in your portraits!

Photos from this session were taken at the amazing Snapshot Photography Conference in Santa Barbara. I had an amazing time and wholeheartedly recommend this workshop.

While I love a classic pose, the more out-of-the-box poses really appeal to me! In this case, the subject is an athlete and was more than happy to try out some more unusual poses! There’s nothing wrong with delicate and dainty portraits, but it’s typically not the full picture of a subject’s personality. That’s why during photoshoots I like to encourage clients to give me 10 seconds of bravery to try out a more wild pose. After all, if you find you don’t like, we can just delete it!
