I’m excited to share with you some pretty Hinsdale maternity photography from a recent personal project! A few weeks back I was lucky enough to meet up with Abbie Christine Photography and Laurel Smith Photography for a beautiful styled workshop. This was an amazing opportunity to grow alongside other talented photographers and also to stretch creatively; with three photographers capturing the same subject there was less pressure to get the standard portraits from a session. It was so fun to get some more creative shots and angles!
This gorgeous family just welcomed a new baby girl!
I have a feeling these girls will be amazing big sisters!!
Isn’t that sunshine fabulous? For early March we lucked out with a glorious 70(!) degree and sunny day! The wind was strong and brought lots of beautiful movement to the grasses and flowy dresses!
An intentionally out-of-focus shot can give such a dreamy feeling to the photo. It makes me think mom and daughter are in a world of their own, imagining how sweet it will be to welcome their newest addition!
These clients were GORGEOUS!!
I spy a bit of sun flare and haze! I don’t typically shoot from angles that give lots of sunflare, but I loved it in this instance. The warm sunshine glow on Mom’s hair and the grasses lead to a really dreamy look!

My favorite shot of the day. An unconventional portrait, to be sure, but I loved “peeking in on this moment” through the grasses of Mom proudly showing off her baby bump!
Love some shots of parents and their children playing, especially when the sunset glow is this pretty!
“Why photograph in March in Illinois?” you say. “Sounds cold with unpredictable weather.” Well friend, here’s why:
- no bugs.
- dried grasses!! Light from the sun bounces off the surroundings and reflects onto the client’s skin. It’s much more flattering when the color is a gentle neutral color rather than bright green!
- dried grasses!! The movement and texture from them makes a beautiful background.
- At the tail end of winter the weeds have been eaten down by deer, so there’s no need to worry about burrs or seeds getting stuck to your clothes. AND as a bonus, it allows us to venture further into the fields, gaining access to locations that would otherwise be way too much of a pain to get to during the growing season.
Can’t get over how beautiful this family is!
I love the movement we got in their hair with that warm south wind!
Thanks for joining me for this creative photo session, and congratulations to this wonderful family on the arrival of their sweet new baby girl! I hope I’ve convinced you to consider a late winter photoshoot of your own. 🙂
